Tutorial: DIY Hanging Book Holder

April 17th, 2010

Thanks to Jennifer @ Papaya Studios I now have a fabric project on my to do list that isn’t a blanket or clothing. This looks much easier for a beginner sewist like me!

Here’s her step by step tutorial on how to make a hanging book holder.

Best thing about this is that it doesn’t take up floor space like a traditional book shelf does. We need all the floor space we can get in our daughter’s room.

Thanks so much Jennifer! This is a project that both my husband and I can do. Most of the time he’s not that into my sewing projects. He’ll be happy when I tell him this project requires a trip to the hardware store :)

If you have a tutorial you’d like to share, send us a link and we’ll post it as soon as we can.

Tonight’s the night

April 13th, 2010

Glee is on. Who’s with me? Team Finn? Team Puck? I don’t know which team I’m on anymore - I’m just glad the show is starting up again!

And it’s the Madonna episode. It’s too much. I can’t wait and am already counting down until 9:25pm tonight. Don’t be suprised if I don’t answer emails until after 10:30pm. HA HA.

Who’s with me? Are you a gleek like I am?

Sorry for the non-fabric related post. I could not help myself.

P.S. I also heard that there will be a Lady Gaga episode coming up too. Oh, and the Puck & Rachel relationship isn’t completely kaput. They get together for a few seconds (an eternity from a teenager’s perspective of course) in a future episode.

Monthly Gift Certificate Winner: Robyn R

April 7th, 2010

Robyn  was our monthly gift certificate winner for March 2010.

Here’s Robyn’s answers to our questions:

1. What do you love about living in Alberta?
Ha ha… I grew up in Calgary and I must say *emphatically*  I was never meant to end up here… I am meant to be on Vancouver Island somewhere (honest)!  Anyway, things I love about Alberta are the blue skies, the Rocky Mountains and the wildlife.  And my family lives here too.

2. Who’s your favourite fabric designer (don’t feel pressured to name one in store!)
I am really taken with whimsical designs like those by Etsuko Furuya, Lizzy House and Heather Ross.

3. Do you have a secret stash of fabrics that no one else but you knows about? If so, what are you planning to do with it?
I have a growing stash that everyone knows about since sewing is a renewed passion of mine that I’ve been talking about a lot… but most people don’t know how big my stash has become in just a few months!  That’s my little secret – I only pull a few pieces out at a time to show people.  I plan to make some quilts, window shades, some cute clothes for my daughter (age 2.5) and maybe a skirt or two for me.

Congrats Robyn!

P.S. I think I’m a West Coaster at heart too! I love being near Toronto, but when I think about British Columbia or California, I get really happy. Maybe one day :) Hopefully my family can visit Alberta too one day – looks beautiful in photos!

Nicey Jane, Hope Valley & Dolce

April 4th, 2010

Yay! Some new Free Spirit fabrics have finally arrived!

Denyse Schmidt Hope Valley Charm Pack

We didn’t get everything we ordered and there are still some prints that we are anxiously waiting for. We’ve been told the estimated delivery date for the rest of the goodies are in June or July :( So sorry for those that have been waiting on some specific Nicey Jane, Hope Valley and Dolce prints.

We have posted everything we received from these three collections – including fat quarter bundles and charm packs. If there is a specific print or cut you’re looking for, write to us and we’ll let you know when it’s coming in.

Hope you had a great weekend and got some vitamin D!

Closing down

April 1st, 2010

Before I talk about our reasons for shutting down Pink Panda Fabrics, I want to stress that it had nothing to do with our customers.

You’ve all been amazing. Many of you have cheered us on from the very beginning in 2008 when I was just starting out – cutting fabric and trying to master late night feedings with a newborn.

You’ve reached out to me with emails of support and some of you have even heard my voice over the phone! I love the emails and letters I’ve received since opening up shop and never imagined that saying goodbye would be so difficult.

But we knew it had to come to an end eventually as things are constantly changing in our lives, and sadly, April will be the last month of Pink Panda Fabrics.

My husband has gotten an offer on the West Coast and we’ve decided to move over to one of my favourite places in the world – California!

This new move means there’s ton of things to do and so we’ll be shutting our doors at the end of the month. Me (Cheryl) and my team (the lovely local ladies who help me pack and cut) have loved every minute of bringing the freshest fabrics to Canadians and are really sad that it will end soon.

Hopefully I’ll be able to re-establish some sort of fabric store in my new home and find more local ladies to help me out.

XOXO

Cheryl & The Pink Panda Fabrics Team

p.s. Happy April Fool’s Day!

Did we get you? HAHAHAHA

Ok, I’m not moving anywhere and Pink Panda Fabrics will NOT be shutting down it’s doors.
I would love to say that I’m moving to California one day but right now I’m happy here in Toronto. I think I’m a West Coaster at heart even though I was born and raised on the East Coast.

Sorry if we scared you a few minutes ago. To make it up to you, we’ve put a ton of stuff on sale :)

Next year, we promise not to play any April Fools jokes on anyone. Just had to get it out of our system once.

Still waiting on some Free Spirit fabrics

March 30th, 2010

We know… many of you have been asking us where the new Free Spirit fabrics are. We’ve been hounding the suppliers almost daily trying to get information on when they’ll arrive in Canada.

At first it was going to be March but now it looks like sometime in early April. If only fabrics could learn how to tele transport!

We have lots coming in – fat quarter bundles, charm packs and yardage. Thanks for being so patient everyone! We’re just as excited as you all are to get these onto our shelves. Not to mention the other great stuff we have coming in too – organics and more Echino later this season.

What we can tell you is that everything on it’s way to us are in colours perfect for Spring and Summer. The weather is gorgeous where we are this week and we hope it’s just as sunny and bright where you are too! Happy Tuesday!

March 11th, 2010

Not sure if Spring is officially here yet (we’re hoping it is because we’re loving the sunny days and tshirt weather!) but we’re celebrating with a little cleaning!

We have lots of new stuff coming in this Spring/Summer so we are trying to make space on the shelves for them.

See what’s on sale over here - we have some Cloud 9 Fabrics, Heather Ross’ Far Far Away, Laura Gunn’s Lantern Bloom, and select Echino discounted from 10-15% off.

Bulk discounts also apply on sale items – just a reminder :)

Ok that’s it for now. Hope you’re enjoying the weather. C’mon Summer! We want to bust out the shorts and sundresses over here!
