The holidays are just a few weeks away (I still can’t believe it’s already Fall!) and I’m getting into crafting mode here. With scrapbooks to put together, soap to make, figuring out what cookies to bake for a cookie exchange and now, I just added some fabric necklaces on to the “To Make” list.
Thank you to Kristie over at OCD: Obsessive Crafting Disorder who put together a step by step tutorial for making these fabric necklaces – my job is now much much easier as I don’t have to go hunting for instructions come November (I hope that’s enough time to make about 10 of them – I think it might be!).

Kristie also has a few other tutorials that look like they will end up on my “To Make” list (when the holidays are over – because I like to keep the stress to a minimum around holiday time ).
If you haven’t visited the OCD blog yet, do take some time out this week to drop by.
*HINT: There’s a coupon code, a Pink Panda Fabrics and a pouch giveaway over there! Just sayin’.
Have a great weekend, friends!

Tong was our monthly gift certificate winner for June 2010.
Here’s Tong’s answers to our questions:
1. What do you love about living in Ontario?
I love that it’s so diverse! I grew up in Ottawa and then moved to Toronto for university and have now settled here. I love the natural resources, the beautiful national parks. I love Toronto and all the different cultures from around the world that thrive in the city.
2. Who’s your favourite fabric designer (don’t feel pressured to name one in store!)?
I LOVE Denyse Schmidt, she is most definitely my favourite. I also love Heather Bailey and Anna Maria Horner.
3. Do you have a secret stash of fabrics that no one else but you knows about? If so, what are you planning to do with it?
My fabric stash is no secret, my mom knows it best because she has to share a room with them when she comes to visit. I’m lucky that my boyfriend/common law partner is not only so supportive of my (little) hobby, but encouraging of it too! No need to hide the stash in our house! =) But I am hoarding some Far Far Away unicorns (from Cheryl!) for my future daughter, the boyfriend doesn’t know about that, haha.
Congrats Tong!

Thanks to everyone who entered the $25 Gift Certificate giveaway for Pink Panda Fabrics, Clippopotamus and Grace Announcements.
It was fun reading about what your plans are for the Summer. Like many of you, we will be spending most of our time in and around the city. Our daughter is 2 and is infatuated with hippos and requests to go visit the zoo every weekend. Thank goodness for the annual pass!
Without further ado, the winner of this giveaway via Random.org is …. #10 Melissa! Congratulations!
We hope you have a fun this Summer in Nova Scotia (we’ve never been but hope to visit that part of the country one day) and Ottawa!
Thanks to everyone who entered the giveaway. We have another fun one with some other mom run businesses coming up after the long weekend next week! So stay tuned.
Thank you also to Alexandria of Clippopotamus and Lindsay of Grace Announcements too.

As promised, this is the first giveaway to celebrate our SavvyMom.ca Mom Entrepreneur Award nomination.
There are a few more giveaways lined up so check back often (we’ll also announce the new giveaways on our Facebook page and Twitter)
So let’s get started!
It was a little over a year ago that I met Alexandria and Lindsay online. They are two of the kindest online friends a gal could ask for. And did I mention, they are very talented too?
Clippopotamus was started in 2008 as a hair clip company while Alexandria was on maternity leave with her daughter Story. Fast forward 2 years and one child later, Clippopotamus now offers products for girls and boys and Vanessa was brought on board to help with production.
My daughter is the proud owner of 6 Clippo clips and a pair of mitt clips. So if you ever see a girl running around the city with 6 clips in her hair (yup, she requests all of them to be worn at once), you know it’s my daughter!
Grace Announcements was started in 2005 by Lindsay and offers custom invitations, cards and wall art. You may have seen some of Lindsay’s work with your fabric orders – she designed postcards for Pink Panda Fabrics a while back.
My daughter has had this elephant print hanging in her room since she was 9 months old. Needless to say, the word “elephant” was one of her first words (right after “more”, “cheese”, “Mom” and “Dad”)
On Friday June 25, 2010, one lucky person will receive a gift certificate to all 3 stores:
- $25 gift certificate from Pink Panda Fabrics
- $25 gift certificate from Clippopotamus
- $25 gift certificate from Grace Announcements
To enter:
- Leave a comment below and let us know what your plans are for the Summer (big vacation, staycation, work, relaxing by the pool? Whatever it is, we want to know!)
For additional entries:
- Like Pink Panda Fabrics on Facebook
- Like Clippopotamus on Facebook
- Like Grace Announcements on Facebook
Leave a separate comment for each “like” (if you say you like all 3 in one comment, it will only count as 1 additional entry and not 3).
Giveaway open to CANADA only and expires on June 25, 2010
Good luck and have a great weekend!

Yvette was our monthly gift certificate winner for May 2010.
Here’s Yvette’s answers to our questions:
1. What do you love about living in Ontario?
I live in a rural area on a farm in the GTA, I love how rural we are, yet how close we are to everything.
2. Who’s your favourite fabric designer (don’t feel pressured to name one in store!)?
Probably Heather Ross and Alexander Henry, though I love lines by many designers.
3. Do you have a secret stash of fabrics that no one else but you knows about? If so, what are you planning to do with it?
Not really – I’ve sewn since I was about 13/14 but only started sewing a lot in the last year, though I’ve had a fabric stash of some sort for many years LOL right now I’m starting to do more clothing for both my daughter and myself.
Congrats Yvette!

Christa was our monthly gift certificate winner for April 2010.
Here’s Christa’s answers to our questions:
1. What do you love about living in British Columbia?
I love living in B.C. because even though I live in the city, I can easily go swimming in a lake, lie on a beach by the ocean, or hike a mountain and still be home in time for dinner.
2. Who’s your favourite fabric designer (don’t feel pressured to name one in store!) and what will you be making with those fabrics?
I’ve just started quilting so I don’t quite have a favorite designer yet, however I’m in the process for creating a bedspread and the key elements of it are designed by Etsuko Furuya so I’m collecting & stashing complimentary scraps in turquoise & burgundys to go with it. So far I’ve only made a couple of baby size quilts that I have given away as gifts but this one I’m going to keep for me!
Congrats Christa!

Robyn was our monthly gift certificate winner for March 2010.
Here’s Robyn’s answers to our questions:
1. What do you love about living in Alberta?
Ha ha… I grew up in Calgary and I must say *emphatically* I was never meant to end up here… I am meant to be on Vancouver Island somewhere (honest)! Anyway, things I love about Alberta are the blue skies, the Rocky Mountains and the wildlife. And my family lives here too.
2. Who’s your favourite fabric designer (don’t feel pressured to name one in store!)
I am really taken with whimsical designs like those by Etsuko Furuya, Lizzy House and Heather Ross.
3. Do you have a secret stash of fabrics that no one else but you knows about? If so, what are you planning to do with it?
I have a growing stash that everyone knows about since sewing is a renewed passion of mine that I’ve been talking about a lot… but most people don’t know how big my stash has become in just a few months! That’s my little secret – I only pull a few pieces out at a time to show people. I plan to make some quilts, window shades, some cute clothes for my daughter (age 2.5) and maybe a skirt or two for me.
Congrats Robyn!
P.S. I think I’m a West Coaster at heart too! I love being near Toronto, but when I think about British Columbia or California, I get really happy. Maybe one day Hopefully my family can visit Alberta too one day – looks beautiful in photos!

Mommy’s Lil Monkey owner, Julia, was our monthly gift certificate winner for February 2010.
Here’s Julia’s answers to our questions:
1. What do you love about living in Ontario?
I have spent most of my life in Southern Ontario but have spent summers and winters in Northern Ontario. I love the variety of nature, weather and communities Ontario has to offer. Growing up in Niagara Falls I got to experience the feeling of a smaller city, and in Toronto I have the thrill of so many different cultures. I also love how everything in Ontario is within a days drive too!
2. Who’s your favourite fabric designer (don’t feel pressured to name one in store!)
I love working with bright colours, retro inspired prints and non-traditional prints for kids. I tend to work with a lot of Alexander Henry and Michael Miller prints. Absolutely LOVING the new Giraffe Garden Pink Panda just got in! And am waiting to get to my piece of Funny Bunnies in Pink from Anna Griffin’s Riley collection that is in my stash!
3. Do you have a secret stash of fabrics that no one else but you knows about? If so, what are you planning to do with it?
My stash isn’t so secret as it fills at least 6 large totes! I often forget what fabric I have bought and will pull out pieces and be pleasantly surprised. I let my husband have the final say in a lot of the fabrics I buy so that I don’t go overboard – and he supports my fabric addiction (which could be a good or bad thing)! A majority of the fabric I buy is for Mommy’s Lil Monkey creation; however I do have one tote filled with fabric to make my little monkey things. I tend not to sew for myself but love sewing for other people!
Congrats Julia!

Jane, who owns and operates Sewn Natural and blogs over Sewn Natural Studio was our monthly gift certificate winner for January 2010.
Here’s Jane’s answers to our questions:
1. What do you love about living in QC?
After decades of living in Montreal and now in Gatineau, my love of Quebec is rooted in this province’s vibrant, creative approach to all aspects of life within the community. Because of Quebec’s close ties with Europe, there is a certain, lovely joie de vivre present. Also many environmentally and socially benefical policies were developed here earlier than in other parts of North America.
2. Who’s your favourite fabric designer (don’t feel pressured to name one in store!)
While I really love a number of designers, my favorites have to Marimekko, both past and present.
3. Do you have a secret stash of fabrics that no one else but you knows about? If so, what are you planning to do with it?
My secret stash of fabric includes some vintage Marimekko pieces and some Guatemalen huilpil fabrics handwoven by the women of Guatemala.
Congrats Jane!
