Project Inspiration: Doll for your daughter

It’s beginning to look alot like Christmas…..

and I have JUST started getting gifts ready (making some, purchasing some) with only a few weeks left to go. My 19 month old has discovered dolls and now must carry around a little Polar Bear doll everywhere with her.

The attachment is so strong that in the middle of the night if he happens to roll out of her arms, she’ll wake up and we hear her on the baby monitor crawling around the crib and shouting “Bear Bear? Bear Bear? Bear Bear!”. Once he’s back in her arms, there’s a few seconds of silence and then back to snoring she goes (oh yes, she snores!!)

I found these dolls from the flickr group and thought one would be great for the Pink Panda if she didn’t have such a strong attachment to her bear! I love the fact that the dolls have ponytails and buns and are quietly sitting in a basket! One of them resembles her too — what little girl doesn’t want a doll that looks like them?

For parents that have gone through this stage, how do you deal with it? Do you buy multiples of the same doll? Do you try to introduce other dolls so you can wash them when they get dirty? This bear goes everywhere – I mean it has to sit beside her for meals, has to watch her during bath time, has gone on vacation with us and when I tried putting him in the washing machine she stood there watching him get covered with soap suds and cried for the entire wash cycle!

Obviously I don’t mind getting the same doll for her (in case something happens to the original — you know a lost limb or a missing eye) but it was given to us by a family member last year during Valentine’s Day and the store where it was purchased is no longer selling the bear. I’ve tried introducing another white bear but for some reason she insists that she have the original one. How does she know the difference?

Arianne, it is very cute indeed. But maybe not so much at 3:30 in the morning. If she doesn’t find it then she opens the door and starts calling us to help her with the search for Bear Bear. HA HA.

Hannahmumma, the dolls are so so lovely! I was so happy when I saw them in the flickr group.

Jozen, I would purchase hand made dolls but I am waiting until my daughter is a bit older. This bear of hers has been thrown into the sandbox at the park, stained with spaghetti sauce (because he has to eat at the dinner table while we eat our meals) etc. Don’t want that kind of treatment for a handmade item.
