Busy as a bee because of teething

As you may have read in my first few entries and the About Us section, I am a mom to a 1 year old little girl (aka Pink Panda).

When I started working from home a few months ago (I do web consulting on the side when time allows it along with running this fabric store), I thought it was going to be a cake walk. My commute was reduced from 1.5 hours one way to the downtown core to 10 seconds to the home office, I’d get to work in PJs all day AND I’d have dinner ready by the time my husband gets home from work.

Things have been a bit busy. No, a lot busy. Definitely not a cake walk! I am with Pink Panda from the time she wakes up until her Daddy gets home — which is around 7pm on most days. Then Daddy and try to cook a decent meal, we run errands (grocery shopping, visiting friends and family), play with Pink Panda, try to get her to bed at a decent hour (with teething her bedtime ranges anywhere from 10:30pm – midnight …. crazy isn’t it?) and then I work.

I respond to emails, pack orders, prep food for the next day for Pink Panda and then try to clean up the mess she made during the day.

Forgive me if I am a bit slow at responding to your requests and emails. I do have a BlackBerry which I am addicted to, and I do read all your emails, comments, questions as soon as they hit my inbox, but I sometimes can’t answer as fast as I’d like to.

That’s why I am up until 2am most days working. I don’t mind it at all and I love reading all your feedback. It confirms that the decision I made last year to become a work at home mom, was the right one. Thank you!

So this post goes out to all the moms out there.

How did you get through the teething stage?

Is it possible to do other things during the day (ie. housework, cook, clean) while your child is not in the best of moods? If yes, how?

What did your kids use to deal with the pain? I have tried everything – wet washcloth, teething rings (I have a bajillion of them and she hates them all), freezies (tried letting her just bite on it — not eat the freezie!), and natural teething tablets from the health food store. She likes biting on her toothbrush but it’s definitely not something she uses consistently to relieve her sore gums– some days she’s ok, other days she wants nothing to do with the toothbrush!

HELP!

OK it’s now 2am over here and I have finished responding to emails and packing orders (and writing this post). Looking forward to hearing your stories / tips / advice or rants (makes me know that I’m not in this alone)

Ahh, teething – it’s a lot to add on top of an already busy day!

Some things that worked for us:

    - Camilia (more effective than Hyland’s teething tablets over here)
    - Amber teething necklace (from Inspired by Finn)
    - An Ergo! My son spent hours in the front carry last time he was sick, and the back carry works when he’s not feeling great and I really need to get something done. Definitely worth the investment I think. Check out http://www.thebabywearer.com for second-hand ones if you like :)

Do you have a babysafe feeder? You can find them anywhere, they’re mesh baggies on plastic handles, and you can put frozen fruit in there for her to chew and suck on. Healthier than freezies and just as cold and yummy! Also Bug & Pickle teething oil is nice when you don’t want to give tylenol or advil – it’s natural and really helps!

    P. S. I love your shop, you have such beautiful fabric!
