So here you go… a list of 60+ Free Pincushion Patterns from Tipnut!

P.S. The winner of the monthly gift certificate and sewing pattern giveaway (September 2010) is Shannon S from British Columbia. Congrats Shannon!

Tutorial: Fabric Necklace

October 1st, 2010

The holidays are just a few weeks away (I still can’t believe it’s already Fall!) and I’m getting into crafting mode here. With scrapbooks to put together, soap to make, figuring out what cookies to bake for a cookie exchange and now, I just added some fabric necklaces on to the “To Make” list.

Thank you to Kristie over at OCD: Obsessive Crafting Disorder who put together a step by step tutorial for making these fabric necklaces – my job is now much much easier as I don’t have to go hunting for instructions come November (I hope that’s enough time to make about 10 of them – I think it might be!).

Kristie also has a few other tutorials that look like they will end up on my “To Make” list (when the holidays are over – because I like to keep the stress to a minimum around holiday time ;) ).

If you haven’t visited the OCD blog yet, do take some time out this week to drop by.

*HINT: There’s a coupon code, a Pink Panda Fabrics and a pouch giveaway over there! Just sayin’.

Have a great weekend, friends!

Tutorial: Fabric Headboard

September 27th, 2010

Wooo! Found a tutorial for a fabric headboard a few weeks ago (just in time too because I was thinking about getting one for a guest room but didn’t have a very big budget for one).

Brooke of All Things Thrifty has a tutorial up on her blog about how to make a fabric headboard.

Fabric Headboard Tutorial by All Things Thrifty

Looks somewhat simple enough for one person to do (although I may need a bit of help from someone – hint to the husband!) to mount the pieces oh the backer board.

Have you ever done this sort of thing? Made a non traditional (for example, non metal / non wood headboard)?

Fab Find: Craft Caravan

September 15th, 2010

We haven’t posted a fab find for a while so here’s one that we came across during the Summer. Read between the lines – when us moms were exhausted from running around with the kids and couldn’t think of any other activities to keep them busy and happy :)

Not sure about your kids, but ours LOVE arts and crafts. Maybe because they see their moms scrapbooking, card making, taking photos, sewing and constantly in the “craft room” of our homes when we have a bit of down time? Or maybe it’s just the crafty gene we’ve passed onto them?

At any rate, we came across Craft Caravan and thought it was an awesome concept. Monthly delivery of craft kits for kids? Just brilliant!

For a monthly fee, they do the shopping, put together the instructions for parents to supervise or provide some extra guidance and then mail it out to your kids at the end of the month.

Makes us moms (and dads) less stressed out gathering supplies, coming up with an original craft activity and trying to keep the kids away from using our craft supplies (not that stickers, ribbon and fabric can’t be used for their craft projects – just not the really GOOD stuff ;) ).

These kits will definitely come in handy on rainy days, days when they don’t have school or any snow days they have in the upcoming colder months (there’s bound to be some in Canada!).

More fab finds to come. If you have any projects, websites or tutorials you’ve come across that would be useful for fabric lovers (or crafty types in general), please feel free to share them with us!

Whoopsies & an Organic Fabrics Sale

September 10th, 2010

It was a crazy Summer over here at PPF HQ (with trips to the library, zoo and just general busy-ness that accompanies being parents to toddlers) – we forgot to choose July and August monthly gift certificate winners!

Our sincerest apologies. Winners have been notified and we will announce them next week. Stay tuned.

In the mean time, we have all organic fabrics on sale to celebrate the beginning of Fall.

Ok, it’s not the beginning of Autumn just yet… but we’re excited for the soon to be cooler temperatures and seeing apple cider at our local farmer’s market!

Monthly Gift Certificate Winner: June 2010

July 13th, 2010

Tong was our monthly gift certificate winner for June 2010.

Here’s Tong’s answers to our questions:

1. What do you love about living in Ontario?
I love that it’s so diverse!  I grew up in Ottawa and then moved to Toronto for university and have now settled here.  I love the natural resources, the beautiful national parks.  I love Toronto and all the different cultures from around the world that thrive in the city.

2. Who’s your favourite fabric designer (don’t feel pressured to name one in store!)?
I LOVE Denyse Schmidt, she is most definitely my favourite.  I also love Heather Bailey and Anna Maria Horner.

3. Do you have a secret stash of fabrics that no one else but you knows about? If so, what are you planning to do with it?
My fabric stash is no secret, my mom knows it best because she has to share a room with them when she comes to visit.  I’m lucky that my boyfriend/common law partner is not only so supportive of my (little) hobby, but encouraging of it too!  No need to hide the stash in our house!  =)  But I am hoarding some Far Far Away unicorns (from Cheryl!) for my future daughter, the boyfriend doesn’t know about that, haha.

Congrats Tong!
